Partners in Preparedness
Mendocino County Office of Education
School/Community Emergency Response and Crisis Management Project
The Mendocino County Office of Education has received a grant to help coordinate school/community emergency preparedness for Region I schools. The grant objective is to assist educational institutions revise their emergency preparedness plans and procedures to be compliant with the Standardized Emergency Management System (SEMS) and National Incident Management System (NIMS) as specified by state and federal regulations. The project is serving 593 public and private schools throughout the five county region.
To achieve grant objectives project staff are working with school district employees to build partnerships with local community organizations, law enforcement, local government, public safety, public health, and mental health agencies. With these partnerships combined with improved emergency preparedness plans, better communication systems and adequate training our schools will be better prepared to survive and recover from any type of emergency or natural disaster.
In Mendocino County, project staff are available to meet with schools and district offices to:
- discuss the grant objective,
- collect information on school needs,
- review and comment on emergency preparedness plans,
- help schools and district offices develop site emergency teams,
- facilitate training opportunities and exercises, and
- perform vulnerability assessments.
